Summary of the contracting process

The Health Education England is initiating the "Learning Disability and Autism Programme" as part of its planning stage. This programme, valued at £4,500,000, aims to design and commission a national Autism Peer Education initiative, following a prior successful pilot project in Manchester. The engagement phase is set to conclude by 3rd June 2022, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute insights. The programme is classified within the education and training services sector, specifically targeting special education services, and will cater to regions across England with delivery addresses in Leeds (LS1 4PL).

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) that specialise in education and training services. Companies focused on autism education resources, training for families, and capacity building for personal assistants and care providers would be well-suited to compete. The successful implementation of this programme will directly support the National Strategy aims in the health and social care sector, making it an attractive venture for organisations looking to contribute to enhanced educational outcomes for individuals with learning disabilities and autism.

Notice Title

Learning Disability and Autism Programme

Notice Description

The learning disability and autism team are working with partners at NHSE to explore the potential to design and commission a national programme of Autism Peer Education. This project will seek to consolidate Health Education England's view that families and carers are an integral part of the workforce and should be able to access to high quality education and training. It will build on a successful nationally funded HEE autism peer education pilot project that has been undertaken in Manchester and develop this further to provide a national offer for autism peer education. This offer would be equally accessible in all regions of England through the provision of autism education resources to families, personal assistants, and small independent care providers This work will directly underpin the aims in the Department of Health National Strategy for Autistic Children, Young People and Adults and NHS Long Term Plan. Specifically, it will support the National Strategy aims
