Notice Title

Specialist Leg Ulcer Clinic in Corby

Notice Description

NHS Corby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has a population of approximately 84,000. Corby CCG consists of 5 GP member practices that are working together to ensure the local population has high quality healthcare services which are sustainable. We are looking for a provider to deliver a specialist Leg Ulcer clinic for GP patients to offer early access to specialist intervention and improve healing rates for our patient population. Recent studies within a Cochrane review (O'Meara 2009) compared compression bandaging performed within a specialist leg ulcer community clinic with usual treatment by the GP and district nurses, overall healing rates were significantly increased in patients with venous leg ulcers receiving compression within a specialist leg ulcer setting. The service will manage all leg ulcerations from 5 GP practices based in the NHS Corby CCG boundaries. Patients will be initially assessed in their GP practice and will be referred to the Leg Ulcer service from the first point of contact. The service will provide routine treatments as specified by the locally agreed Leg Ulcer pathway. It is anticipated that most patients will require compression bandaging on a weekly basis and that leg ulcers should heal within a 12 week period. An agreed set of outcome measures has been defined including improved healing rates and quality of life to patients. The service must be available between 9 and 5pm, Monday to Friday including Bank Holidays and providers would be expected to supply a self-management plan to patients so to minimise the need for out of hour's interventions. Premises from which the service will be delivered must be suitable for the provision of treatment to patients with venous leg ulcers, including the implementation of the standards for infection control and the safe disposal of contaminated waste. If you would like to express an interest in this service, please send your confirmation by email to Rosalind Carter at Rosalind.Carter@ardengemcsu.nhs.uk by no later than 5.00pm on 15th March 2017.
