Notice Title

Bronington Manor Drain Diversion

Notice Description

As part of the Marches Mosses BogLIFE Project (LIFE 15/NAT UK/000786) at Fenn's, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve, near Whitchurch, Shropshire, this autumn we are going to re-route a drain which carries neighbours' mineral-rich water through the bog, back to the edge of the bog. By then damming up the current Drain, mineral-poor high water levels will be restored in the peatland which it currently drains. NE already have the design for the drain diversion and restoration of the current drain, all the required drawings, a Bill of Quantities and a draft specification for works. We also have all necessary permissions for the works. This Work is very similar to a project - the Whixall Manor Drain Diversion, which NE successfully commissioned and executed before the LIFE project began. The Works will involve the creation of the Diversion ditch and blocking of the existing ditch involving: a) Re-profiling sections of existing ditches along the new route outside the peat. b) Digging linking sections of new ditches. c) Installing 3 culverts with silt traps to protect the peat. d) Damming the existing drain to raise peat water levels. e) Associated works such as installation of access culverts, temporary fencing etc
