Summary of the contracting process

The Oil and Pipelines Agency (OPA) has initiated a tender for the "OPA/T571. OFD Fuel Storage Tank Inspection Framework" project. This procurement process seeks a contractor to perform comprehensive inspections of bulk fuel storage tanks located across various Oil Fuel Depots (OFDs) in the UK, which support Naval Command operations. The tender, published on 20th February 2025, falls under the technical inspection services of engineering structures industry category and adopts an open procedure procurement method. Interested parties must submit their proposals by 27th March 2025, with the contract period spanning from 1st May 2025 to 30th April 2029. The OPA, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, requires these inspections to ensure the tanks meet necessary standards and can be safely returned to service.

This tender represents a significant business growth opportunity, particularly for SMEs specialising in technical inspections and maintenance of engineering structures. The contract's estimated value of £3,000,000 indicates substantial work with potential for ongoing partnerships. Companies with expertise in inspection techniques such as ultrasonic testing, internal lining examination, and detailed reporting will find this tender well-suited to their capabilities. Given the project's scale and the strategic importance of the military storage sites, successful contractors can expect high visibility and future opportunities within this domain. Interested businesses should demonstrate their ability to comply with stringent inspection schedules and safety standards, positioning themselves as credible partners to the OPA and the Ministry of Defence.
