Summary of the contracting process

Northumbria University at Newcastle procured enterprise skills and start-up support for students and graduates in the North East. The service is aimed at people considering self-employment or business start-up as a career, and at those seeking stronger enterprising skills and an entrepreneurial mindset to improve their employability. Delivery combines one-to-one mentoring, workshops, in-residence support at the university’s on-campus incubator, and bootcamp-style events. This is Lot 3, Enterprise Skills, within a wider eight-lot framework. The main work is business development and management consultancy, including advice, guidance, mentoring and practical support for early-stage enterprise. Delivery is associated with Northumbria University’s Newcastle upon Tyne setting and the wider North East area.

The procurement has been awarded following an open procedure. The contract was awarded to FIRST Face to Face Limited on 4 August 2026. The award value is £150,000 including the full duration of the agreement and all eight lots, rather than Lot 3 alone. The awarded contract period runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2029. The tender submission deadline was 7 July 2026. The procurement was for services and was recorded as complete, with an active award. Northumbria University at Newcastle is the buyer. The opportunity covered a framework arrangement for start-up support services, with the Enterprise Skills requirement forming Lot 3.

This award shows demand for structured enterprise and employability support within a university environment, delivered through several complementary formats. A credible future supplier would need practitioners able to mentor students and graduates individually, design and lead practical workshops, support participants in an incubator setting, and run intensive bootcamp events. Relevant capability includes business start-up advice, self-employment guidance, business development consultancy and the ability to build entrepreneurial confidence and transferable enterprise skills. Suppliers should be able to work with people at different stages, from those exploring an idea to graduates developing their employability, while coordinating consistent support across campus activity and group events. Experience of education, incubation or early-stage enterprise programmes would be directly relevant to this buyer’s requirement.
