Summary of the contracting process

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is conducting a Market Sounding Exercise titled "Third Generation Trams Market Sounding Exercise" to enhance its understanding of capabilities within the tram supply market. This initiative is part of the planning stage and aims to inform future tram procurement processes. Interested suppliers can register for this voluntary engagement by reaching out to Chris Robinson, the Procurement Lead Officer, by emailing chris.robinson@wmca.org.uk. The deadline for submissions is set for 10am on 5th March 2018, with all activities taking place in the West Midlands region of the United Kingdom, within the scope of the railway and tramway locomotives industry category (CPV Code: 34600000).

This Market Sounding Exercise presents a significant opportunity for companies in the tram and railway sectors to connect with the WMCA and provide valuable feedback on technical, operational, and commercial aspects of tram procurement. Businesses with expertise in tram manufacturing, maintenance, and associated services would be well-positioned to participate, leveraging this engagement to align their offerings with WMCA's future needs. By participating, suppliers can enhance their visibility and potentially secure contracts in forthcoming procurement activities driven by WMCA’s insights gathered from this exercise.

Notice Title

Third Generation Trams Market Sounding Exercise

Notice Description

This Market Sounding Exercise is to enable West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) to gain a better understanding of the capabilities of the tram supply marketplace. This knowledge will assist WMCA in planning future tram procurement and specification in a way that best aligns with the capabilities and needs of the tram supply market. In addition, the knowledge gained will enable WMCA to take account of tram product capabilities and limitations in developing the extensions and future operational service plans. Participation in the Market Sounding project is voluntary, and the project is entirely separate from any subsequent tram procurement activity. Participation in the Market Sounding project will not affect the opportunity for suppliers to participate in any subsequent tram procurement, and will not form part of any tram procurement assessment or selection process. WMCA is keen to plan a tram procurement that delivers the best possible outcomes, and understands that this is best achieved by listening to the needs of the tram supply industry. As a result, this Market Sounding process is designed to gather tram supplier feedback on a range of technical, operational, programme and commercial issues. To reiterate this market sounding exercise is entirely separate from any subsequent tram procurement activity. In order to register to the market sounding exercise please email Chris Robinson - Procurement Lead Officer (Metro): chris.robinson@wmca.org.uk Following successful registration you will be provided with the market sounding information pack.
