Summary of the contracting process

Cefas, the Centre for Environment, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Science based in Lowestoft, has awarded a contract for the "CEFAS24-83 Contract for onsite pipette clinic for Maintenance, Calibration & Repair" with the supplier Starlab. This contract, valued at GBP 50,000, falls under the calibration services category and aims to provide an onsite pipette clinic at the Cefas Weymouth laboratory for the maintenance, calibration, and repair of over 250 pipettes. These services will be conducted through an open procedure (below threshold) procurement method, and the contracting process has reached the award stage as of 15th July 2026. The contract term extends from 20th September 2024 to 20th September 2027.

This tender provides valuable business opportunities, particularly for SMEs capable of offering specialised calibration services and training. Businesses with ISO17025 accreditation in calibration work stand to benefit by delivering essential maintenance services and workshops. The inclusion of training for laboratory staff further requires a supplier that provides not only technical services but also educational support, making it an attractive prospect for firms focusing on precision instruments and their applications within laboratory settings. Businesses with experience in servicing a broad range of pipette brands, such as Eppendorf and Gilson, would find this contract particularly suitable.
