Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit is seeking to enhance the provision of additional eating disorder beds for adults in the East Midlands through a market engagement event titled "Market Engagement Event for the Provision of Additional Eating Disorder Beds for Adults in the East Midlands." Currently in the planning stage, the initiative aims to address the increasing demand for inpatient services, where current capacity is insufficient to meet local needs. The engagement process will culminate on 3rd March 2021, with an event scheduled for 4th March 2021, giving interested providers the opportunity to discuss procurement details with the commissioning team and take part in individual meetings. Participants are advised to complete an online questionnaire by the 3rd March 2021 to express interest.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for SMEs and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSE) that specialise in rehabilitation hospital services to engage with a growing need in the healthcare sector. Organisations capable of providing tailored inpatient care for patients with eating disorders, particularly those that can manage complex cases, will find this procurement process particularly relevant. By participating in this early engagement exercise, businesses can position themselves effectively for future opportunities in this expanding area of healthcare delivery.

Notice Title

Market Engagement Event for the Provision of Additional Eating Disorder Beds for Adults in the East Midlands

Notice Description

The East Midlands currently has one 15 bedded inpatient unit that caters for adults requiring an inpatient admission for Eating Disorders which is Langley Ward at The Bennion Centre, Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. This is not enough capacity to meet the needs of local patients as there has been an increase in Adult Eating Disorder admissions from an average of 20 in 18-19 to 25 in 19-20 to 30 a month 7 2020-21. Any inpatient beds required over and above 15 are currently commissioned out of area. This can mean some patients are placed a considerable distance from home and leads to delays in admission and longer lengths of stay. The current arrangements present particular difficulties for patients considered to be complex/those with co-morbidities. A bespoke procurement exercise will be used to identify a suitable provider for this service. More information about this procurement exercise will be provided atthe market engagement event on Thursday 4th March 2021 from 9.00 am. Providers who are interested in this opportunity will also have the option to discuss the procurement on a 1-2-1 basis with the commissioning team and procurement leads either on Thursday 4th March 2021 in the afternoon (1pm-4pm) or Friday 5th March 2021 (9am-5pm). Potential bidders will need to complete the online questionnaire on the EU Supply portal that is connected to this exercise in order to express an interest in this opportunity, as well as securing a place at the market engagement event and/or the 1-2-1 meetings. Individual meeting times will be allocated on a first come basis. The market engagement questionnaire is accessible through the below link: https://uk.eusupply.com/login.asp?B=AGCSU&target=&timeout= Please note the deadline for responses will be 4pm Wednesday 3rd March 2021. Additional information: This is purely a market engagement exercise; any subsequent procurement will be advertised separately and all organisations wanting to participate will need to respond to the procurement advertisement as and when published. The responses received during the market analysis exercise will not be taken into account in any future evaluation process as part of the formal procurement process.
