Notice Title

Children and Young People's Therapeutic Service for Victim Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Notice Description

The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) requires a children and young people's wellbeing and therapeutic service which is responsive to needs, providing two key elements: - The service should provide an information, advice and guidance service for children and young people to access directly. The service should be easy to access in ways and times that are best for children and young people, ideally identified through consultation and codesign. Guidance is likely to include supporting safety planning with children and young people. - The service should provide counselling and therapeutic support to children and young people who have been victims of domestic abuse/ witnessed the abuse and need help with their emotional wellbeing, and someone to talk to or art therapy, the expectation is that any councillor or therapist who is working directly with the children and young people will have the relevant qualifications. Referrals to this part of the service are likely to be from the children's workforce or parents/carers. Where this is not the case, consent from parents may need to be sought. Our aim is to better support children and young people who are victims' survivors of domestic abuse by providing them with support at the earliest opportunity possible, where they are able to access the service flexibly out of hours whether this is via a phone line or messaging. Delivery should be age appropriate, and cases escalated where specialist mental health support is required via a referral. The therapeutic service will provide support to children young people aged 5-18 ensuring the support is suitable based on individual needs and general advice and guidance on their website and over the phone, detailing what services are on offer and available to them, to help with emotional recovery from trauma. The service will be for children and young people who do not meet the statutory threshold for mental health support.
