Contract Summary
National Highways Environment Sustainability Division would like to commission research and development to improve our understanding of the future risk of flooding on the strategic road network (SRN) under future climate change scenarios. The key objectives of this project are to: - to model, identify and assess what effect predicted climate change projections could have on the flooding risks to the Strategic Road Network (SRN) and adjacent communities. - to produce a spatial map of the SRN identifying (on Layer 1) "present day" flood risks and (on Layer 2) "future year" flood risks on the SRN and neighbouring communities accessible to a range of internal users for strategic planning purposes that can be hosted on National Highways Spatial Portal. - working with the Environment Agency, identify opportunities on the SRN for partnership working to improve the network's resilience to climate change whilst supporting reductions to flood risk in adjacent communities. - make recommendations on how outputs from the work could inform wider strategic business planning, flood risk mitigation options and further R&D.
