Notice Title

Role Analysis of the Foundation Pharmacy Technician

Notice Description

Health Education England (HEE) and the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) are currently scoping the Pharmacy Technician career pathway and will be revising APTUK's Foundation Practice Framework for Pharmacy Technicians. To inform this work, they have agreed to co-commission a role analysis of a Foundation Pharmacy Technician; that is a newly qualified Pharmacy Technician in their first two years of practice. A role or job analysis is a systematic process for collecting and analysing information and providing objective impartial evidence to inform selection and curriculum development. An effective curriculum requires a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the relevant knowledge, skills, competencies, values and other professional attributes necessary for the role being considered. A role analysis should be future focused and comprehensive and, whenever possible, findings should be strengthened through triangulation. This role analysis will be expected to underpin and guide the design and review of APTUK's UK wide Foundation Practice Framework for Pharmacy Technician that will inform professional capabilities to be tested at the point of entry, during the development at this level and upon completion of the programme.
