Summary of the contracting process

NHS England is seeking proposals for a managed coaching and mentoring programme aimed at South West Midwifery and Obstetrics services, with a budget of £114,000. This initiative targets training for up to 120 Midwifery staff and 20 newly appointed Obstetric Registrars and Consultants. The procurement process is currently in the Tender stage, with submissions due by 2nd June 2022, and the contract period expected to commence on 13th June 2022, lasting until 30th September 2022. The main industry category for this opportunity is health training services, with delivery expected across multiple regions, including the UK and British Oversea Territories.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in health training, coaching, or mentoring services, particularly those with experience in tailored educational programmes in the healthcare sector. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as the procurement method is a competitive quotation approach, which tends to favour innovative solutions from agile providers. Companies capable of addressing the unique challenges faced by NHS staff, especially in leadership development after the COVID pandemic, would find this tender particularly aligned with their expertise.

Notice Title

Managed coaching/mentoring programme for SW Midwifery and Obstetrics services

Notice Description

The programme will offer a bespoke coaching and mentoring offer to up to 120 South West Midwifery staff and 20 newly appointed Obstetric Registrars and Consultants. Each participant of the course will have up to 7 hours of coaching and mentoring time which will be provided over the course of the programme and tailored to the needs of that individual. The programme will be preceded by a wider workforce questionnaire and then followed up by evaluation and outcome reporting. Each individual on the programme will have the opportunity to bespoke their coaching and mentoring package dependent of their needs. The rationale behind the programme includes these recognised issues in attracting Midwives into senior position of leadership across the SW: In 2020, over 50% of Heads of Midwifery posts out for advert. Very few high-quality applications, a number of posts had to re advertised and some not filled substantively. Feedback regionally and nationally shows a lack of desire to move into positions of leadership and recognises the impact of the lack of leadership on safe staffing and culture. The need to support Obstetric registrars and consultants who have moved into roles during the COVID pandemic and had little access to any training or personal development. Diminished access to training for midwifery staff within Trusts. The opportunity is available at https://health-family.force.com/s/Welcome
