Summary of the contracting process

The Metropolitan Police Service is conducting a tender for the supply of approximately 400 Type Approved Evidential Screening Devices (ESDs) along with their associated maintenance and repair. This procurement process, with a total value of £70,000, is classified under the industry category of measuring instruments and is active as of 15 April 2021. The tender is open for applications until 19 May 2021, and the successful contract period will commence on 1 July 2021, lasting until 30 June 2026. Suppliers interested in this opportunity must ensure they comply with the required specifications outlined in the tender documents, which can be accessed through the Coupa e-tendering system.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, especially SMEs that specialise in the production or supply of measuring instruments, particularly those that are able to provide Home Office 'Type Approved' ESDs. Companies involved in the manufacture and maintenance of such testing equipment could benefit greatly from this contract, as it not only facilitates direct sales but also establishes long-term relationships with the Metropolitan Police Service. Interested suppliers should leverage this opportunity to enhance their market presence and expand their service offerings in the field of law enforcement equipment.

Notice Title

The Supply of Evidential Screening Devices (Type Approved) and associated maintenance and repair

Notice Description

This procurement relates to the supply, maintenance and repair for Type Approved Evidential Screening Devices (ESD) for preliminary breath tests (testing for the presence of alcohol). Bidders should only apply for this opportunity where they can supply a Home Office 'Type Approved' ESD. Section 6 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 provides police officers with the power to conduct preliminary breath tests to identify whether a person driving is likely to have excess alcohol in their body. This power allows officers to test those suspected of being involved in a collision, those suspected of committing a moving traffic offence and those suspected of having consumed alcohol or being under the influence of alcohol. Such a test will also therefore eliminate, at the earliest opportunity, those who are almost certainly not offending. The Mayors Office for Policing and Crime (on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Service) is now looking for the supply of approx. 400 ESDs and the maintenance and repair of these during the term of the contract. Interested suppliers should visit the Coupa e tendering system in order to apply for the opportunity: https://supplier.coupahost.com/quotes/public_events?customer=metpolice Additional information: All tender documents can be accessed via the Coupa e-tendering platform post accepting the terms of use for the platform. The Coupa e-tendering system is free to register and access.
