Summary of the contracting process

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is overseeing the refurbishment of the Cannon Hall North Range, transforming it into a training venue with potential additional container space for workshops and storage. This procurement falls under the construction category for art and cultural buildings and represents an open procurement process. The tender period concluded on 10 June 2021, while the contract commenced on 15 July 2021 and concluded on 15 October 2021. The total value of the contract awarded was approximately £237,465.20, and it is aimed at securing a contractor for the construction works involved.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in construction, particularly those with experience in educational infrastructure, heritage buildings, and community-focused projects. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could find this particularly beneficial given the Council's support for local businesses, as evidenced by their desire for suitable contractors to engage in works that enrich the local community and provide training facilities for young people in disciplines such as horticulture, pottery, and the arts.
