Notice Information
Notice Title
Training to support people living with Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
Notice Description
Health Education England are putting out this notice as a PIN (Prior Information Notice) with a view to completing a Direct Award to the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLAM) The case for direct award can be found on the tender portal. MCCAED at SLAM is a unique provider of ARFID training, the training is delivered by Dr Rachel Bryant-Waugh who is the national clinical lead for the national CAMHS ARFID service at SLAM and specialist expert in the field. She was involved in developing the treatment pathway for ARFID (2016) which informs the training provided. Our needs from an HEE perspective, based on feedback from services is to provide foundation training in ARFID for children and young people to support a range of healthcare professionals, particularly supporting teams, which would cover didactic teaching and an element of group focussed learning. This needs to be expertly delivered, because NHSEI are bringing in a new clinical code in April 2022, which means that a healthcare professionals need a robust understanding of ARFID presentation in young people. Plus, we know that there has been a doubling in prevalence in eating disorders, including ARFID following the COVID national lockdowns, which means that we need the provider to deliver at pace to provide additional training If SLAM is unable to provide dedicated services, there will be a detrimental impact on HEE service delivery for several reasons: * Due to Covid there have been a significant increase in cases and referrals with those presenting symptoms of eating disorders. In addition, those with ARFID is more prevalent, however there is not the understanding in our services to highlight potential ARFID cases. * As a result it's imperative the ARFID training is delivered to upskill our services and significant delay impact on services being affected through no diagnosis of patients with ARFID due to their positioning and expertise. * Services not being trained and upskilled to deal with ARFID cases and early intervention may result in the severity of the ARFID cases worsening. For the Specification, Contract and the Case for Direct Award please access the portal at: https://health-family-contract-search.secure.force.com/?SearchType=Projects The Financial envelope of this PIN is PS60,000+ VAT. All communications should be made via the messaging function on the Health Family eTendering portal. If any provider has concerns with the commissioning intentions outlined within the published documentation, please raise this via the eTendering Portal in the first instance within 30 days of the date of this Prior Information Notice. The closing date of this PIN is midday on 7th March 2022
