Summary of the contracting process

The BFI (British Film Institute), located at 21 Stephen Street, London, has completed the procurement process for the title "IIIF Development Work." This tender falls under the IT services industry category and specifically includes services such as software development and database services. The tender phase culminated on 1st February 2021, followed by a contract period from 10th February to 31st March 2021. The total value of the awarded contract, amounting to £19,850, was awarded to the supplier Digirati on 8th February 2021.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in IT services, software development, and platform interconnectivity. Suppliers with a strong background in developing infrastructure solutions for digital collections and experience in user interaction tracking would be particularly well-suited to compete. Smaller enterprises may find the procurement approach favourable, given that the BFI indicated suitability for SMEs, allowing them to showcase their specialised capabilities in a competitive landscape.

Notice Title

IIIF Development Work - AWARD

Notice Description

The BFI National Archive is deploying an IIIF infrastructure to enable effective access to digital still image and document collections by BFI staff and BFI Reuben Library reading room researchers. This infrastructure will not be made available on the open internet, but only to workstations within the BFI's physical network or via its remote working environment. We are deploying an instance of the Universal Viewer in the first instance, though in time we may choose to deploy other IIIF viewers such as Mirador. The BFI has a requirement to achieve tracking of interactions with the digital collections, both by BFI staff on workstations, and by Library visitors on BFI Library terminals. This tender is for the development work to create and deploy a solution to achieve this, by (a) forcing users of our Universal Viewer instance (or Mirador instance if deployed later) to log in using personal credentials, and then by (b) storing a permanent log of each user's interactions with the digital media. This log will be used to audit, quantify and understand usage of the digital collections generally, and of specific collections assets.
