Summary of the contracting process

The current procurement process involves Public Health England (PHE), which is based in London, seeking to award a contract for the provision of a CLARIOstar PLUS plate reader. This process falls under the industry category of analysis apparatus and is at the tender stage. The deadline for submitting any queries is set for 21st July 2021 at 12pm, with the tender period concluding on the same day. The contract is valued at £46,000 and will commence on 26th July 2021, lasting until 25th July 2022. The procurement method being utilised is a single tender action due to the specific requirements of the equipment needed.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in laboratory equipment and scientific instrumentation. Companies that can provide advanced technology compatible with existing PHE systems and demonstrate an ability to meet stringent specifications would be well-positioned to compete. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, given the nature of the procurement process. Suppliers that can highlight their experience in similar projects and their capacity for innovation will likely gain a competitive edge.

Notice Title

Provision of a CLARIOstar plate reader

Notice Description

Public Health England (PHE) is planning to award a contract for the provision of a CLARIOstar PLUS, to BMG LABTECH. PHE's Technology Development Group (TDG) Porton has been using earlier versions of this technology for over 4 years, as part of their work to elucidate resistance mechanisms of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI) organisms. PHE believes that the CLARIOstar PLUS is currently the only system on the market capable of meeting the specific requirement of fluorescence and luminescence detection performed by a patented linear variable filter monochromator, including having a linear variable dichroic mirror. The ability to select wavelengths and bandwidths for excitation and emission from 8nm to 100nm, changeable in 1nm increments, is also required. As continuity of data acquisition also needs to be ensured, and direct comparisons between historical and new data need to be made, we require any new instruments to be compatible with current instruments and associated software. If you feel that you can meet the above requirements, please email scientific.procurement@phe.gov.uk. The closing date and time for any queries is 21st July at 12pm.
