Summary of the contracting process

Durham County Council is seeking to establish a Framework for Manned Security Guard Services, effective from 1st November 2018 to 31st October 2022, with an option for a two-year extension. The procurement process, which is currently complete, utilised an open procurement method and is classified under the 'Security services' category. The tender period ended on 23rd August 2018, and the estimated contract value is between £15 million and £17 million. Various service lots have been created, covering areas such as security for Aycliffe Secure Centre and event security, to accommodate different procurement needs across the region of North East England.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for both small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs) engaged in security services. Businesses with expertise in manned guarding, site security, crowd management, and related fields would be particularly well-suited to compete. With the framework allowing for multiple suppliers, companies offering diverse and specialised security services can collaborate and improve their competitive edge in this expanding market.
