Notice Title

Waste Needs Assessment Service

Notice Description

Medway Council is preparing a new Local Plan to provide direction on the future growth of the area. The aim is to ensure that Medway grows sustainably, to provide land for housing, employment, infrastructure and services, whilst protecting the area's environment and heritage. The new Local Plan will cover the period up to 2037, providing for the number of homes and jobs and supporting infrastructure that the area will need. The new Local Plan must include strategic policies to manage the development and use of land in Medway. The preparation of planning policies for waste will need to be based on a robust evidence base. The Local Plan relating to waste should identify sufficient opportunities to meet the identified needs of an area for the management of waste, aiming to drive waste management up the Waste Hierarchy. A Waste Needs Assessment is required as a key part of the new Local Plan's evidence base. This would help to ensure that the draft Local Plan is legally compliant and in line with national planning policy.
