Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Justice is conducting a tender for the supply of Fresh Bread and Morning Goods to public and in-scope private sector prisons across England and Wales. This crucial procurement is valued at approximately £12,000,000 and will span an initial term of three years, starting from August 8, 2020, with the potential for a one-year extension. The tender process is currently in the active stage, with submissions due by February 26, 2020. This contract involves delivery to a wide range of locations, ensuring compliance with relevant food safety regulations.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in bakery goods, particularly those with the capacity to supply a core range of bread products on a national scale. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may find this procurement particularly accessible, as the contract allows for flexible delivery arrangements to various prison locations, which can adapt to the changing landscape of prison facilities. Firms equipped to meet the stringent food safety standards and capable of timely national distribution will be well-positioned to compete effectively in this market.
