Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process involves the Department of Health and Social Care, which has successfully awarded a contract for the supply of herpes zoster (shingles) vaccine (recombinant, adjuvanted). This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically within the healthcare industry, and is located in Bedford, UK. The contract has been awarded following a limited procurement method without prior publication due to the exclusive nature of the supplier's licence. The contract duration is from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2023, with a potential extension of up to 24 months. The contract value is £66,131,483, with the signing date on 16 December 2020.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, particularly those involved in vaccine production and distribution. Companies that have the capacity to deliver compliant products at scale and possess the necessary licensure will be well-suited to compete, especially since the award criteria focus on quality and delivery alongside cost considerations. The exclusivity of the supplier underlines the need for innovative solutions and potential partnerships for businesses looking to engage in future health-related procurement projects.
