Summary of the contracting process

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is initiating a procurement process for the supply of Lateral Flow Testing Kits, classified under diagnostic kits within the health industry. This tender is currently in the planning stage, with significant procurement volume anticipated during the first and/or second quarter of 2021, as part of national efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The future notice date is set for 26th February 2021, and potential suppliers should prepare for the forthcoming contract details which will be published through the Atamis e-Sourcing platform.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for suppliers of diagnostic devices to engage in government contracts focused on public health. Businesses specialising in the manufacturing or supply of medical testing equipment, particularly those with capabilities in rapid diagnostic tests, would be well-suited to compete. The ongoing demand for Lateral Flow Testing Kits underscores the critical role such businesses play in supporting health initiatives and potentially securing significant government contracts throughout 2021.

Notice Title

Lateral Flow Testing Kits

Notice Description

Lateral flow tests are effective at detecting infectious cases of coronavirus, thereby identifying people with a high viral load who are the most likely to spread the virus further.Hundreds of thousands of Lateral Flow Tests are being carried out every day, with the majority taking place at dedicated tests sites for people without symptoms, in order to detect more and more cases of COVID-19 and break chains of transmission. So far, tens of thousands of cases have already been detected using these tests. The DHSC anticipates that self-testing may cover a relevant role in the Mass Testing strategy, to support individuals preserving their health and self-isolating, when required, to stop the spread of the virus.
