Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, titled "Troposcatter system," involves the Ministry of Defence, specifically the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), which is based in Salisbury, UK. This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on microwave radio equipment (CPV code 31711423). Currently in the Award stage, the contract for this project was signed on 1st March 2021, with a total value of £496,991.03. The procurement method employed was limited, involving a negotiated process without the prior publication of a contract notice, justified on technical grounds due to the unique specifications required for the troposcatter system.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses skilled in advanced communications technology, particularly those producing small-form factor systems suitable for defence applications. Companies that specialise in microwave radio equipment and have capabilities in rapid prototyping or unique technical solutions may find it advantageous to engage in this sector. The requirement for a one-person portable, transportable system capable of battery operation creates a niche for innovative suppliers who can meet the stringent operational needs of the UK Defence forces.
