Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM seeking Consultant Services to support mobilisation planning, logistics, and infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games scheduled for 2022. This process is currently complete, with a contract valued at £130,000 awarded to The Russell Partnership. The procurement was conducted through a limited method without prior publication of a call for competition, reflecting the urgency and specialised requirements associated with the event. The contract was signed on 21st April 2021 and falls under the project management consultancy services category.

This contract presents significant opportunities for consultancy firms with experience in event management, particularly those adept at multi-site logistics and infrastructure support. Businesses that have previously participated in large-scale events, such as the Olympics or similar occasions, would be well-suited to compete in future tenders, especially if they can demonstrate substantial relevant experience and a track record of successful delivery. The procurement also hints at potential future consultancy opportunities following the Commonwealth Games, suggesting a strategic path for growth in related sectors.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Consultancy to support the mobilisation planning, logistics, infrastructure, professional and technical support of organisational needs for the Common Wealth Games in addition to the execution and delivery detail from the operating perspective

Procurement Information

RPC have supported various Campus Services projects for the University of Birmingham supporting specialist activities in various professional fields that are not University core activities and continuity is a key aspect at this time. RPC were fundamental in obtaining the commercial interest for the Commonwealth Games to be held at the University in 2022 through their technical ability to deliver other such multi-site events for other clients i.e. The London Olympics, The Winter Olympics etc. The mobilisation planning, logistics, infrastructure, professional and technical support of organisational needs for the Commonwealth Games in addition to the execution and delivery detail from the operating perspective are uniquely provided by RPC through their knowledge and experience of the University of Birmingham and the management of such events. The specialist understanding of each of these aspects will be a key driver in delivering success for the University of Birmingham. Due to Covid 19 restrictions planning for the Commonwealth Games 2022 has been challenging and restrictive resulting in delays in decisions and authority to proceed on urgent matters for authority. It is the intention that for future consultancy after the Commonwealth Games, there will be a full tender process in order to set up a Framework for future provisions.
