Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is conducting a tender for a "Plant Information System" which falls under the industry category of goods, specifically for an industry-specific software package (CPV code 48100000). The procurement process is currently at the planning stage, with an expression of interest exercise ongoing to gather feedback from interested parties. The questionnaire must be completed and submitted through the EU Supply website by the extended deadline of 16 September 2021. UKAEA is located at Culham Science Centre, Abingdon, OX14 3DB, United Kingdom.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in software development, particularly those specialising in analytical, scientific, and configuration management software. Companies with expertise in creating industry-specific software solutions, particularly those designed for managing complex data systems and lifecycle processes in fusion energy research, would be well-suited to compete. Engaging with this procurement process could enhance market presence within the energy sector and support the ambitious goals of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) programme.

Notice Description

UKAEA are carrying out an expression of interest exercise and are taking views from interested parties in respect of a Plant Information System project. The questionnaire should be completed and returned via the EU Supply website.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) is an ambitious programme to accelerate the delivery of sustainable fusion energy. The STEP programme is a staged programme to design and build the world's first compact fusion reactor, based on the spherical tokamak, by 2040. It will develop and identify solutions to the challenges of delivering fusion energy, benefiting from UKAEA's breadth of expertise and its suite of research facilities - RACE, Materials Research Facility, H3AT and Fusion Technology Facilities. A STEP Plant and Tokamak Information Management System is envisaged to provide a centralised repository for all Plant/Reactor information assets. The information backbone provided by such a system will record the 'Digital Thread', tracing relationships and origins between data sets, to capture the evolutionary design rationale and intent, of the fusion reactor definition. The system shall supply core capabilities summarised as Simulation Management, Design by Analysis, Process & Record Management, Product Requirements & System Engineering Management, Plant Item and Plant Breakdown Structure Management,CAD & Document Management and Configuration Management & Change Control. The system shall facilitate the Tranche 1 objectives of the STEP Programme lifecycle, to produce a concept design by 2024. It shall be scalable to meet the functional needs of future phases of the STEP lifecycle. Additional information: UKAEA are carrying an expression of interest exercise and are taking views from interested parties in respect of this project. The questionnaire should be completed and returned via the EU Supply website.
