Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Education is conducting a public procurement process for the initiative titled "Girls Competitive Sport", aimed at enhancing competitive sports and leadership opportunities for girls across England. This tender falls under the education and training services industry, classified as a service procurement, and is currently in the Award stage, with an active contract recently signed on 29 October 2021. Interested parties were invited to participate following an open procedure that required bidders to submit their applications through the DfE Jaggaer system. The tender originally had a bidding deadline on 7 October 2021.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses focused on educational and sports development, particularly those with experience in delivering high-quality programmes for schools. Companies that demonstrate expertise in fostering sports participation among girls and can ensure engagement across the UK educational landscape are particularly well-suited to compete. With a commitment to addressing barriers to participation in competitive sports, this contract may also attract non-profits and organisations specialising in sports leadership programmes, thereby fostering inclusive growth in the sports education sector.

If an appeal regarding the award of the contract has not been successfully resolved, The Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (SI 2015 No 102) provide for aggrieved parties who have been harmed or are at risk of harm by the breach of the rules to take legal action. Any such action must be brought within the applicable limitation period. Where a contract has not been entered into, the Court may order the setting aside of the award decision or order the DfE to amend any document and may award damages. If the contract has been entered into the Court may, depending on the circumstances, award damages, make a declaration of ineffectiveness, order the DfE to pay a fine, and/or order that the duration of the contract is shortened.
