Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is planning to initiate a tender for the procurement of engineering design services related to the development and supply of six fume cupboards. This project is linked to the construction of the National Fusion Technology Platform located at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in Abingdon, UK. The procurement process is currently in the planning stage, with an engagement exercise expected to be completed by 31 December 2021. Afterward, an Invitation to Tender will be issued. The project involves custom manufacturing of laboratory equipment that meets specific design requirements.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and manufacturers specialising in fume cupboards and laboratory services. Businesses that possess the capability to provide bespoke engineering solutions, particularly in mechanical engineering installation works, may find this project aligns well with their services. By participating in this procurement, suppliers can position themselves for future contracts within the fusion energy industry, tapping into ongoing and upcoming developments at the Culham site.
