Summary of the contracting process

Associated British Ports (ABP) is inviting tenders for the construction of a new distribution centre located at the Port of Cardiff. The project entails the design and construction of an 11,000m² facility, including warehouse and office spaces, along with associated external works on a 24-acre site. The procurement is currently in the active tender stage, with a submission deadline set for 14th January 2022, and an anticipated start date in March 2022, leading to project completion by October 2022. The total estimated contract value is approximately £25 million and the procurement method is selective, with participants required to submit a completed Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ).

This tender presents significant opportunities for construction firms, especially those specialising in commercial construction, civil engineering, and the development of industrial facilities. Given the project's scale and complexity, businesses with experience in large-scale projects, especially in warehouse and distribution centre build-outs, will find themselves well-positioned to compete. Companies capable of delivering integrated design and construction services in compliance with the NEC 4 ECC Option A form of contract will be particularly advantageous. With the potential for long-term engagement with ABP, successful bidders could further expand their portfolios in the UK infrastructure sector.
