Summary of the contracting process

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is currently inviting tenders for the UKRI-1441 NERC Vessels Maintenance Framework, which is classified under the services industry, specifically for repair and maintenance services of ships (CPV code: 50241000). This procurement is in the planning stage, with a revised deadline for receipt of tenders extending to 21st February 2022 at 12:00. The successful bidder will engage in a contract lasting three years with options for an additional two years, focusing on maintenance and emergency repairs for the RRS “James Cook”, RRS “Discovery”, and RRS “Sir David Attenborough” vessels, ensuring compliance with requisite standards.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), specialising in maritime maintenance and repair services. Companies with capabilities in vessel refitting and emergency support will be well-suited to compete, given the fixed-period nature of the contract and the necessity for continuity in maintenance standards. As UKRI seeks to establish a long-term maintenance partnership, bidders with relevant experience and global operational capacities are likely to find this a valuable opportunity for business growth.
