Summary of the contracting process

West Lothian Council is seeking to sustain a personalised food shopping service through a direct award to The Food Train, effective from 1st February 2022 until 31st January 2027. This initiative aims to support vulnerable residents aged 50 and over, specifically those facing disabilities, illnesses, or complex health needs, allowing them to maintain independence at home. With an estimated contract value of £467,008, this procurement falls under health and social work services and is classified as a limited procurement method, exempting it from the typical call for competition due to its aggregate value being below the threshold set by the Scottish Government.

The contract presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses specializing in health and social care services, particularly those that focus on community support for elderly individuals. Companies providing grocery services, logistics for home deliveries, or those with experience in volunteer coordination would be particularly well-suited to compete. By securing a place in this contract, businesses can contribute to improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations while enhancing their own operational footprint within the region.
