Summary of the contracting process

Northern Powergrid Limited is undertaking a tender for the "Provision of Wood Pole Inspections," a procurement process within the electricity industry. The contract involves inspecting up to 48,000 wood poles, with the inspections scheduled to begin on 1st May 2022 and conclude by 30th November 2022. It is classified under ancillary works for electricity power lines and is being conducted through a limited procurement method, specifically an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. The tender is currently in the award stage, with the contract signed on 22nd March 2022.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialised in utility maintenance and inspection services, particularly those equipped to conduct detailed structural assessments and geo-coordinated documentation. Companies offering innovative methods for wood pole inspections, including non-invasive testing technologies, will be well-positioned to compete. Given Northern Powergrid's stated lack of alternative suppliers capable of fulfilling this requirement within the specified timeframe, there is a compelling case for businesses in this niche to engage and expand their operations through this contract.
