Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence is planning a tender titled "All Vehicle Screening Research", aimed at providing training for detection dogs to screen Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) for specific target odours. This procurement falls under the category of Research and Development services concerning security and defence materials, with a total contract value of £120,000. The main phase of procurement is in the planning stage, with upcoming relevant communications scheduled for May 16, 2022, and services to be delivered primarily within the UK. Companies interested in bidding should note the stringent compliance requirements related to UK animal welfare and explosives licensing.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in canine training, security services, and research and development in the defence sector. With a requirement to train a minimum of eight detection dogs capable of identifying up to twelve different materials, firms that have expertise in animal behaviour or explosives detection and fulfil the necessary regulatory prerequisites will be well-positioned to compete. This initiative not only fosters business growth in a niche area but also enhances security measures across various vehicle types in the logistics and transport sectors.
