Summary of the contracting process

The Home Office, located in London, UK, is initiating a procurement process concerning Kinetic Impact Projectile systems within the weapons and ammunition industry. This process is currently in the planning stage, with a Request for Information (RFI) aimed at gathering market intelligence and examining the capacity of potential providers. As part of this initiative, interested parties must express their interest before the deadline of 6th July 2022, as this is not a formal competition but an information-gathering exercise. The overall aim is to explore alternative systems that align with the UN's guidelines for law enforcement officials.

This opportunity presents a chance for businesses specialising in firearms, ammunition development, and related goods to engage with government procurement. Companies with expertise in innovative weapon systems or those capable of providing alternative projectiles could find this RFI particularly relevant. By participating in this market consultation process, businesses can position themselves for future tenders that may arise, potentially leading to valuable contracts with the Home Office and contributing to their business growth in the defence sector.

Notice Description

In accordance with the UN Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials General Provision 2, HMG is under an obligation to "...develop a range of means as broad as possible and equip law enforcement officials with various types of weapons and ammunition that would allow for a differentiated use of force...". In this overall context the authorities are seeking information on possible alternative kinetic impact projectile systems. It is emphasised that this RFI should not be interpreted as meaning there are plans to discontinue the use of AEP. This is an information gathering exercise to support future direction and decision making in this area if suitable alternatives are identified.
