The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is overseeing the procurement process for the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy Programme, focusing on a Regional Supplier Contract in Cheshire. This tender aims to develop gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure to service the final 20% of the UK, which is unlikely to attract commercial investment. The procurement stage includes multiple key dates; tenders must be submitted by 10 August 2023, and invitations to tender will follow on 13 September 2023. The contract period is slated to commence on 12 March 2024, with an estimated completion by 12 March 2031. The industry category for this procurement is telecommunications services, under the CPV code 64200000, and the scope includes building and maintaining a network for approximately 17,745 premises.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses in the telecommunications sector, particularly those involved in network infrastructure, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications equipment. With £43,137,000 in public funding available, businesses can secure long-term contracts contributing to regional digital infrastructure, promoting sustainable business growth. Ideal contenders are those with experience in handling large-scale broadband deployment in remote areas. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovative solutions and reliable service delivery in the telecommunications industry are well-positioned to compete, taking advantage of the UK's subsidy control regime to expand their market presence and capabilities.
