Provider for Adult Mental Health Newham's Together Cafe: ELFT
Notice Description
ELFT, is looking to provide a community-based sanctuary for adults in Newham who are at Moderate risk of harm and/or significant distress. The Service operates a walk-in service and Crisis is self-defined.
Lot Information
Lot 1
To provide a community-based sanctuary for Newham residents aged 18 years and above (no upper age limit) for people in a developing mental health crisis, at the times they might ordinarily find particularly distressing for example evening and weekends.
The Crisis cafe will be open access for service users to 'walk in', with no referral process required.
It will employ a psychologically orientated and assets-based approach to crisis care, relying on the power and opportunities of peer support and relational approaches to support people to manage their crisis.
To provide service users who are in crisis or heading towards crisis a safe therapeutic environment as an alternative to crisis pathway services such as the Emergency Department.
To work in partnership with, the Third sector / VCSE provider, to deliver the service whilst meeting the needs of Newham residents.
To deliver an alternative, complementary service for people in mental distress and self-defined crisis.
To provide the right level of support for a person in crisis to minimise the need for an acute intervention.
To provide a psychosocial orientated and strengths-based approach to crisis care, for example, solution focussed brief therapy, mindfulness, Tree of Life, psycho educational approaches, anxiety management and safety care planning.
To collaborate with partner agencies and peer support workers.
To deliver therapeutic interventions and activities that meet the needs of the service user.
To effectively manage risk, including safeguarding issues in line with the Crisis Pathway standards
Operate and manage the ELFT patient record system (RiO) and the DATIX incident reporting system.
The post holder will be overseen and supported by Newham's Crisis Assessment Service who will provide in-reach to the Cafe.
The ELFT Clinician will undertake assessments of service users when on duty at the Cafe and in partnership with service users devise crisis safety plans, delivering evidence-based interventions for a time limited period, to reduce the likelihood of the crisis episode re-occurring and to increase resilience.
Ensure individuals are directed to the primary or secondary care service which is best suited to meet their needs
Work closely with referrers providing expert guidance and support with a view to increasing the threshold of acuity of mental ill health cases managed in primary care.
Provide care and support in a comfortable and relaxed non- clinical environment
Harness the concept of alternative provision to Emergency Department presentations
Liaise with key agencies out of hours to meet the needs of service users.
The provider will be expected to work with ELFT and partners to develop Alternative Care Pathway protocols with blue light service to manage the direct conveyances of appropriate services, diverting them from A&E where appropriate.
It is anticipated that each individual will be able to access a mix of 1:1 support if needed and group support.
The Provider will strive to avoid excluding individuals from the Cafe but work with ELFT and partner agencies to put in place an appropriate plan for managed access, or work with patients to transfer them to a more appropriate care setting.
The Provider encourage the use of volunteers to support the staffing compliment of the service.
Renewal: option for 2X 12 months extension
