NCC1109 The Maltings Construction Contractor
Notice Description
Northumberland County Council (NCC) is looking to conduct a procurement exercise to appoint a main contractor to carry out the works at The Berwick Maltings Theatre. A previous PIN was published however some amendments including the programme have changed therefore this new PIN is being published. To support this, we would like to gain information from the market regarding a number of issues related to the potential procurement exercise. All responses are to be provided by completing the Market Engagement Questionnaire and uploading your response via the NEPO Portal by 30th August 2024.
Lot Information
Lot 1
The existing Maltings venue is ageing, no longer fit for purpose, fails to exploit its unique river-view location, and presents ever-increasing operational challenges - e.g., tired furnishing and decor, lack of soundproofing which prevents simultaneous programming, inaccessible areas for audiences and artists with disabilities, seating and facilities which fall far short of modern audience expectations, antiquated heating, wiring and ventilation. An independent scoping and feasibility study has clearly established the preferred approach - delivering a 21st century venue (the New Maltings) on the existing site that transforms both the customer experience and business model and acts as a major catalyst for the regeneration of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Following completion of various design options over recent months, it has been decided the funding will be prioritised within the existing building and limiting the amount of new build. A multi- disciplinary design team are currently appointed and have recently completed the Stage 2 design. The proposal will remodel the existing building, with potentially a small element of new build. The successful main contractor and their supply chain will be responsible for the specialist fit out of the Theatre and Cinemas.
