Summary of the contracting process

The Manchester Ship Canal Company Limited, a subsidiary of Peel Ports, is overseeing the Warburton High Level Bridge Refurbishment project. This procurement falls under the industry category of 'Bridge renewal construction work' (CPV code 45221119) and is part of their ongoing operation across several key ports in the UK. The contracting authority has implemented a phased procurement approach with key stages including a market research phase initiated in September 2023, a tender process beginning in November 2023, and concluding with the award of the contract to Taziker Industrial Ltd in January 2025. The project aims to significantly enhance traffic flow along Warburton Road by refurbishing and strengthening the high-level cantilever bridge, installing an automated tolling system, and other critical infrastructure improvements. The location of the work is Warburton Bridge Road, Lymm, with the procurement method being a selective process involving a negotiated procedure with prior call for competition.

This tender presents a prime opportunity for businesses specialising in infrastructural refurbishment, construction, and traffic management systems to secure a significant project that promises both high visibility and a substantial contract value. With a total procurement value of £5.6 million, it offers considerable growth potential for firms skilled in large-scale bridge renewal and traffic system upgrades. Companies with expertise in steelwork repairs, protective systems, and automated systems for tolling will find this project particularly suited to their capabilities. Additionally, businesses that can manage extensive refurbishments and withstand the competitive procurement process will be positioned to benefit substantially from the project's multifaceted requirements and long-term community impact.
