Summary of the contracting process

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is engaged in a public procurement process to acquire a collimator system for optical measurements over the visible (VIS) to thermal infrared (TIR) wavelength range. The procurement, under the title "UKRI-3503 Collimated Optics, Software and Uniform VIS to TIR Source System," falls under the industry category of Optical instruments (CPV code 38600000). The main location for the delivery and installation of the system is UKRI's RAL Space premises at Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire (postcode: OX11 0QX), with a targeted delivery completion by 31st March 2024. The procurement stage is currently in the award phase, and the value of the opportunity is estimated between £150,000.00 to £220,000.00 excluding VAT. The procurement follows an open procedure under the legal basis CELEX 32014L0024.

This tender offers significant business opportunities, particularly for entities specialising in optical and remote sensing technologies, including SMEs. Companies capable of supplying integrated systems for pre-launch optical characterisation and calibration of earth observing satellites, imaging systems, and remote sensing solutions will find this tender highly relevant. The contract, awarded to Lambda Photometrics Limited, demonstrates an active demand for precise optical measuring equipment and software solutions, potentially leading to collaborations in state-of-the-art satellite calibration projects. Businesses with expertise in producing uniform VIS to TIR source systems, precision targets, and electro-mechanical control software are especially well-suited to compete for such opportunities.

Notice Title

UKRI-3503 Collimated Optics, Software and Uniform VIS to TIR Source System

Notice Description

UKRI's RAL Space department seek to procure a collimator system for optical measurements over the visible (VIS) to thermal infrared (TIR) wavelength range (spectral range: 0.40 mm to 14.00 mm). The system shall be used to provide pre-launch optical characterisation and calibration of small earth observing satellites, imaging systems and any remote sensing optical solution that falls under the category of small EO satellites. The proposed system shall include a collimator, appropriate uniform white light and TIR sources, precision targets and target wheel for specific tests. The system shall include all the necessary equipment and control software needed to operate the equipment (mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, electro-optical and software/firmware) All individual parts are expected to be fully integrated into a robust enclosure system. Lot Information

Lot 1

This procurement exercise seeks to purchase a complete system that will provide a spatially homogeneous light beam from Vis to NIR with reasonable temporal stability and accuracy to optical characterise cameras and sensors used for EO. The system is going to be installed in the premises of UKRI, RAL Space, at Harwell Campus, OX11 0QX, UK, and be part of the Small Satellite Calibration Facility of RAL Space. The system shall be able to perform accordingly to the requirements set in this tender with the capability to perform measurements of a sensor's Line-Of-Sight, FOV, MTF, PSF and Distortion. The capability to perform radiometric tests is useful, but not mandatory as these will be covered by other equipment. The estimated value of the opportunity is: PS150,000.00 to PS220,000.00 GBP excluding VAT. The System should be delivered by 31st March 2024, support and training must be completed within 4 months after delivery. https://www.ukri.org/who-we-are/procurement-contract-transparency-data/ Additional information: To respond to this opportunity please click here: https://ukri.delta-esourcing.com/respond/2P4F6W75HV
