Summary of the contracting process

The A457 Dudley Road Improvement Scheme, managed by Birmingham City Council, is a large-scale road construction project aimed at enhancing key road sections including Heath Street, Dudley Road, and Spring Hill. Valued at £22,870,000, the project is categorised under 'works' within the road construction industry. This procurement process is currently in the 'tender' stage, with key amendments made to the project's scope and budget to align with updated sustainable transport policies. The project began in late 2019 and includes a significant contract period of 1080 days. The scheme’s goals are to enhance journey times, reduce congestion, and support sustainable transportation in the Greater Icknield area of Birmingham, UKG region.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses involved in road construction, sustainable transportation solutions, and public infrastructure development. The project aims to stimulate economic growth by improving access to key development sites, potentially leading to the creation of approximately 3,000 new homes and ancillary facilities. Businesses with expertise in roadworks, public transport improvement, and active travel infrastructure will find this tender particularly relevant. The awarded contractor, McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd, underscores the project’s scale and the calibre of expertise required, making it an attractive opportunity for large firms in related sectors.
