Summary of the contracting process

National Grid UK Limited has completed the procurement process for a HVDC Converter Systems Framework, aimed at supporting high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter projects across the UK. The initiative, classified under construction work (CPV: 45000000) and electricity distribution, involves the supply, installation, and maintenance of HVDC converter station technology and equipment. This framework adopts a selective procurement method, utilising a negotiated procedure with a prior call for competition, and is designed to cater to multiple projects over the course of 60 months with the option to extend for up to 36 months. Key suppliers for these projects include UK Grid Solutions Limited, Hitachi Energy Sweden AB, Hitachi Energy UK Limited, Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co KG, and Siemens Energy Limited.

This framework presents substantial opportunities for businesses, especially those specialising in electrical engineering, construction, and maintenance services. The procurement is particularly suited for large scale enterprises equipped to provide turnkey solutions including major civil works and sophisticated electrical installation. Companies with expertise in creating collaborative partnerships for delivering complex infrastructure projects will benefit greatly as National Grid is prioritising collaboration with multiple entities and joint ventures. This contract will help these businesses expand their footprint in the UK's growing HVDC sector, facilitating substantial economic growth through the development of critical infrastructure to support the nation's renewable energy targets.
