Notice Description
Skills Bootcamps are needed to address the skills gaps in key sectors of the economy of Surrey, in doing so, also improving the prospects of its residents. The priority sectors identified are as follows: * Digital - including cyber and gaming * Green skills - retrofit, green construction/electrical and sustainability * Advanced engineering and manufacturing * Health and social care
Lot Information
Cyber
Overview: Support participants to understand current information and system security technology practices, learning security measures and protections while also preparing them for the real-world cyber security job market. Expected content: * Application of cyber security policies and procedures * Cyber security awareness and culture * Maintaining professional knowledge of cyber security developments * Information security governance practice and managing organisational vulnerabilities * Application, deployment and evaluation of cybersecurity tools and learning best practice * Knowledge of structured security standards and frameworks (e.g. HMG Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001) * Cloud computing security (e.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS)* * Business Continuity (BC), Disaster Recovery (DR) and Incident Response Concepts * Tools and resources (e.g. Github) that can help them engage with the wider cyber community to support careers progression and the development of the sector * Industry recognised qualifications (e.g. CompTIA+, GIAC Security Essentials) * Alongside technical skills, soft skills will be embedded in the course content
Games Development and CreatechOverview: participants will gain the skills required for games development, including both technical and artistic skill sets, as well as support to understand and secure employment with the range of roles and companies developing games in Surrey. Expected content: * Introduction to Unity (or other relevant platforms) * Software source control * Games production and project management * 2D and 3D modelling and animation * Introduction to programming languages (C# and C++) * Asset creation and management * Suitable leadership and management content, as well as relevant soft skills * Suitable industry recognised accredited qualifications as appropriate
RetrofitOverview: support participants to gain the skills needed to progress into key energy efficiency surveyor/advisory roles in the retrofit sector Expected content: * Understanding building structure and function * The role of retrofit on home energy consumption * Overview of construction and building services, energy efficiency and heat loss, retrofit measures and technologies * The major organisations involved in retrofit, the funding and grants available, the typical retrofit customer journey, PAS 2035 * The role of the Retrofit Assessor and Advisor under PAS2035, the progression opportunities and experience required * Recognised industry qualifications (e.g. Award/Certificate in Retrofit Advice or Assessment Key skills in being a Retrofit Advisor including site visits, health and safety, common challenges in retrofit and energy efficiency and how to deliver good retrofit advice * Some practical elements including site visits: Show the learner the different technologies involved in retrofit so they become familiar with them i.e. heating systems, insulation etc. Provide the learner a shadowing experience of an accredited assessor.
InsulationOverview: participants will learn the theoretical and practical skills required to gain progress into roles in the energy efficiency sector Expected content: * Understanding building structure and function * Introduction to basic tool identification and use * Principles of energy efficiency and the process taken to get to the install stage * Customer service, potentially including case studies of real life examples or role playing different scenarios * The different types of insulation (internal, external, cavity, loft, spray foam), their usages and advantages/disadvantages * Health and safety including working from heights and asbestos awareness * Hands on practical sessions covering the key skills, either in a workshop or on site: Identification of insulation types and show leaner a real-world example of insulation installation. i.e. Learner attends site and identifies the insulation type required and shadows an installer. * Learner works towards insulation accreditation, for example: Level 2 / 3 NVQ in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction)
Low Carbon HeatingOverview: supporting participants to gain the theoretical and practical skills to become high quality heat pump installers Expected content: Understanding building structure and function Principles of energy efficiency in buildings, including whole house retrofit Introduction to basic tool identification and use Benefits and suitability of heat pumps, and the implications for wider building heating system and customer usage Water regulations - Understanding legionella, measurement and verification of water temperature. Heat loss calculations, including appropriate tools and techniques Low temperature heating system design including heat pumps and integration into heating systems Air source heat pump installation and maintenance Practical sessions as required, either on a training rig or on site: Learner has the chance to understand the full process physically from start to finish. i.e. Carry out preparatory work for the Installation of low carbon heating and hot water systems, the installation process, test and commissioning, handover, fault finding, decommissioning etc. All learners will receive 1:1 coaching/mentoring support before, during and after the programme, including to support delivery of the training above, identifying and applying for suitable vacancies, job placement and wider pastoral support as required
Green ElectricalOverview: participants will gain the technical and practical skills to install and maintain renewable energy systems including solar photo-voltaic (PV), electric vehicle (EV) charging and battery storage Expected content: Part 1 (All learners, ~30% of course content) * Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS) module, course content: * Intro to EESS including Battery storage * Legislation, standard and Industry Guidance * Design and Installation (Including safety elements such as earthing, risk assessments, labelling) * Internal Verification Methods relevant to EESS * Handover and DNO notification (Understanding the role of the DNO, constraints and considerations commissioning * Recognised industry qualifications (e.g. Electrical Energy Storage Systems) Following this learners can choose either Solar PV or Electric Vehicle installation as below) Solar PV install and Maintenance (approx. 70% of course content) * Solar PV and EESS * Photovoltaic Panels in context of Renewable Technologies * How a Photovoltaic System Works - Principles and Components * Design of a PV System * Installation of a PV System * Commissioning and Client Hand-Over * Maintenance and Fault Finding * Recognised industry qualifications (e.g. Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar PV Systems) With practical elements including: * How to plan and prepare for installation * How to install the roof array * How to install cabling, inverter and AC supply * Schedule of inspections * PV array tests * Commission the system including; electrical installation certs, schedule of test results, DNO notification, Handover system * Fault finding and rectification Electric vehicle chargepoint installation (approx. 70% of course content) * Introduction to Electric Vehicles - Electric Vehicle types, Characteristics, Charging requirements, Safety considerations * Overview of Electric Vehicle charging - Modes of charging and requirements, restrictions * Electrical Installation Requirements - Supply, Earthing, Planning permission, Explosive atmospheres, Protection, Labelling, Control, Risk assessment * Installation - Practical domestic and commercial installation * Inspection, Test and Certification - Commissioning and DNO paperwork * System Test, Fault Finding and Examination - Includes both a practical and written assessment * Recognised industry qualifications (e.g. Award in Domestic Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation
Sustainable and Carbon ManagementSupport Participants to gain the skills needed to manage carbon reduction planning and other sustainability initiatives within business, including facilitating greater understanding of the climate crisis and Net-Zero requirements Technical content * Overview of climate science and greenhouse gas emissions * Overview of the UN Sustainable Development Goals * Key skills and activities in performing carbon footprinting assessments and carbon management * Key governing legislation and standards * Communicating with colleagues, suppliers and other stakeholders around sustainability and change management * Promoting sustainability within your supply chain * Circular economy principles (high level) * Recognised industry qualifications
Advance EngineeringOverview: participants will learn the technical and personal skills to succeed in advanced engineering roles, as well as an overview of the key roles and employers Content could include: * Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace * Communications for Engineering Technicians * Mechanical and electronic principles of engineering systems * Industrial Plant and Process Control * Electro, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Systems and Devices * Intro to Computer Aided Design (CAD) * Fundamentals of project management * Finite element analysis & failure analysis * Intro to supply chain & end user engagement * Quality Control * Resilience in engineering * Manual handling * Basic Fitting Skills * Systems Appreciation * First Principles appreciation/approach * Recognised industry qualifications related to the above areas
Health and Social CareOverview: aimed at supporting people into/already in a range of health and social care roles, giving participants the essential skills and knowledge to enter/progress in this key and growing local sector Expected content: * Introduction to care: overview of main roles and duties, and professional standards, practices and codes of conduct * Emergency First Aid at Work: to assess emergency situations and respond effectively * Gain knowledge of the 15 standards on the care certificate. * Skills /Baseline observations: learn skills such as accurately recording blood pressure, temperature, and assessing patients. * Safe manual handling: certificate in safe manual handling to prevent injuries when moving heavy loads. * Safeguarding: identifying signs and symptoms, understand how to safeguard yourself in the process. * Manual Handling/ mobility needs * Record keeping * Awareness of medication administration Expected progression: learners completing the programme would be expected to progress into/within health and social care roles (see right for roles/employers), potentially linked to progression onto higher level/degree apprenticeships.
