Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Work and Pensions has awarded a contract for DWP Property Legal Services to Dentos UKMEA LLP and Dentons UKMEA LLP. The contract covers services in the legal category for property matters and involves a large-scale project that includes BAU Landlord Consents, hand backs and dilapidations, front house acquisitions, and temporary expansion of Job Centres due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The contract, which started in September 2022, is active until July 2025, with a total value of £4,150,000. The procurement process was initiated through a tender and the contract was modified to accommodate unforeseen additional legal work.

This awarded tender provides business growth opportunities for legal service providers specializing in property matters. Companies with experience in handling complex legal projects and large-scale government contracts would be well-suited to compete. The Department emphasizes the importance of continuity, skill upskilling, and avoiding duplicate costs in the delivery of legal services. The modification of the contract aims to ensure continuity, prevent inconvenience, delays, and duplication of work for the Department for Work and Pensions.

"description": "The Work Place Transformation (WPT) Programme for the current contract period has an unanticipated increase in the volume of work orders has been experienced during the lifetime of the contract. This has resulted in an increased demand for additional legal work which was unforeseeable and not therefore considered when the contract was let. This unanticipated work has included BAU Landlord Consents, hand backs and dilapidations, front house acquisitions and temporary expansion of Job Centres as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. There would be no continuity between work streams if a new supplier was awarded the additional workstreams alone. The time required for a new supplier to upskill to deliver would exceed the length of mobilisation period itself, therefore, to ensure continuity and avoidance of duplicate costs this modification has been made. A change in supplier would cause significant inconvenience, delay, and duplication of work for the Department. The Department will not exercise it's right to enter into any extension period for this contract.",
