Summary of the contracting process

The Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has undertaken a procurement process titled "Tender for the Collection and Treatment of Residual Waste 2425 TNDR EP 003" under the open procedure, primarily focusing on services within the refuse disposal and treatment industry. This process involves two lots, covering municipal wastes in Omagh and Fermanagh. The procurement stage is currently in the award and contract update phase, with the active contract period commencing on 27th November 2025 and ending on 31st March 2026, following an initial signing dated 1st October 2024. The contract, valued at £2,250,000 GBP for Lot 1, was successfully awarded to RiverRidge Recycling (Portadown) Ltd, a small to medium enterprise (SME) operating within the United Kingdom, specifically targeting waste treatment services such as producing Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) or Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) for energy recovery.

This tender provides significant opportunities for businesses involved in waste management, treatment, and recycling services. Companies with capabilities in mechanical biological treatment, anaerobic digestion, and waste-to-energy solutions stand to benefit from participating in such contracts. The open procurement method favours competitive bidding and potentially allows businesses to expand their operations within the Fermanagh and Omagh District, aligning with local government initiatives to meet landfill diversion targets. Such engagements could lead to long-term contracts with options for extensions, thereby fostering business growth and environmental stewardship in compliance with EU regulations.
