Summary of the contracting process

The City & County of Swansea has issued a contract for the provision of treatment and reprocessing of aggregate waste, divided into four lots. This public procurement opportunity falls under the 'Refuse and waste related services' industry category and is expected to serve the region of Swansea, UK. The procurement process follows an open procedure, suggesting transparency and accessibility for interested suppliers. The contract was most recently updated on 17th June 2025, highlighting its current status and developments. Notably, Gavin Griffiths Recycling Ltd, a small to medium enterprise based in Swansea, has been successfully awarded two active contracts under this tender, starting December 2024, with significant values of £490,000 and £42,000, respectively. Although some lots were cancelled or deemed unsuccessful, the tender's completion status indicates a proficient contract awarding process.

This public procurement contract presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in waste management and recycling services, particularly those with capabilities in handling aggregate waste. Companies that focus on service delivery quality, communication, contract monitoring, and high rates of re-use/recycling will find this tender favourable, especially given its inclination towards quality and price balance in awarding contracts. As the tender process is open, it encourages participation from diverse enterprises, allowing for expansive business growth potential. SMEs and businesses that maintain compliance with relevant waste legislation are highly suited to compete and potentially secure contracts, thereby aiding in their expansion within the waste management sector. The long contract durations, with options for extension, provide additional long-term growth and collaboration opportunities with local authorities.
