Summary of the contracting process

The North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board intends to award a contract titled "NUTH.ACUTE_24-25.01 The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS FT NHS Acute Services" under the Direct Award Process A in accordance with the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) regulations 2023. This contract, valued at £591,018,000, is for acute, mental health, and emergency ambulance services provided by NHS Foundation Trusts, with services commencing on 1st April 2024 and potentially extending until 31st March 2029. The contract was signed on 24th March 2024. The main procurement category is health services, particularly within the UKC region, and it falls outside the scope of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. The procurement method was limited, involving an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. Notably, a conflict of interest involving the Executive Director of Corporate Governance, Communications, and Involvement was identified and mitigated.

This tender represents significant opportunities for healthcare providers specialising in acute, mental health, and emergency services to grow their business by partnering with high-profile NHS organisations such as The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The contract duration and substantial value offer long-term stability and potential for expansion, particularly for large-scale providers able to meet the stringent requirements and quality standards set by national NHS planning guidance. Businesses already engaged in providing healthcare services within the UKC region or with experience in similar NHS contracts will find themselves well-suited to this opportunity.
