Summary of the contracting process

Leicester City Council, in collaboration with Leicestershire County Council, has awarded a framework agreement for the removal, transportation, and storage of cadavers for HM Coroners in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. The framework spans various districts and boroughs within these regions and operates on a rota basis. The procurement process was initiated through an open procedure and culminated in awarding contracts in January 2025. The industry category is funeral and related services, and the procurement method was reliant on the quality of services provided, with the agreement lasting two years with a possible extension totalling four years.

This tender creates growth opportunities for businesses in the funeral and personal services industries in the UK. Companies such as Central England Co-operative Limited and various SMEs have secured their place in providing essential services within this framework. Ideal candidates to compete for such tenders are those with established capacities in handling cadaver transportation and storage, particularly those with relevant expertise and geographical reach. The framework's structure allows multiple suppliers to participate across different lots, thus offering considerable business potential for enterprises looking to expand their market presence in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.
