Summary of the contracting process

The North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB) initially planned a public procurement process for the contract NHSE884, titled "NHSE884 - Elswick Family Practice APMS". The procurement process was geared towards awarding a contract for health services within the scope of a single Alternative Provider Medical Service (APMS) GP practice, located in the West End of Newcastle. The intended contract period was to last for 7 years, with an option to extend for an additional 2 years, starting on 1st November 2024. Key dates included the initial process announcement on 2nd September 2024. However, the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) process for this contract has been abandoned per the latest update on 3rd October 2024 under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, resulting in no contract being awarded.

This procurement process presented an opportunity for businesses specialising in health services to secure a long-term contract valued at approximately £9 million over 9 years. The work involved catering to a diverse patient group, including a significant proportion of patients of Bangladeshi origin and asylum seekers in contingency accommodation sites in Newcastle. Such a tender would have been ideal for healthcare providers experienced in managing diverse patient demographics and capable of delivering comprehensive medical services. However, business growth opportunities for interested parties will need to be sought elsewhere, given that this specific provider selection process has been terminated.
