Summary of the contracting process

The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) is in the planning stage for a public procurement process involving the design and construction of a new research vessel. This vessel will replace the RV Cefas Endeavour to support scientific data collection at sea, incorporating next-generation capabilities to meet environmental commitments. A market engagement event is scheduled for 12th November 2024 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Manchester Airport, with the procurement notice expected around July 2025. This project falls under the goods category, specifically targeting the industry classification of "Survey vessels," and is estimated to be valued between £70 million and £100 million.

This tender represents significant business growth opportunities for shipyards experienced in designing and building specialised research vessels. The vessel is intended for an array of marine tasks including fishing, remote sensing, and equipment deployment. Businesses capable of innovation in maritime technology and sustainability will find this tender particularly attractive. Interested parties should express an interest and attend the engagement event to gain deeper insights into the project's requirements and commercial approach, paving the way for potential collaboration with Cefas in delivering a state-of-the-art research vessel.

Cefas Research Vessel. Infrastructure to Support Future Delivery at Sea

Notice Description

The purpose of this PIN is to notify the market of an upcoming tender opportunity (subject to Business Case approval) for the provision of a Research Vessel (RV) to the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas). <br/> This RV will replace the existing RV Cefas Endeavour that is reaching the end of its operational life and is critical to enabling Cefas to collect scientific data at sea and which can transform the way our seas are monitored by embracing new technologies for data collection and by providing next generation capability to progress our commitments to net zero. Cefas wishes to engage a suitably qualified and experienced shipyard for the design and build of a new Research Vessel which is specifically tailored to meet Cefas' marine and fisheries scientific requirements and be capable of technological update over a service life of 30 years minimum.
