Summary of the contracting process

The NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board has awarded a contract under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) to Asda Pharmacy for locally enhanced pharmacy services in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. This contract, which integrates with existing pharmacy contracts under the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF), runs from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. The procurement process, classified under the health category, was conducted through a direct award procedure without prior publication. The decision to award was made by the NHS South Yorkshire ICB Barnsley place Chief Finance Officer, and no conflicts of interest were identified.

This tender offers significant growth opportunities for businesses in the pharmacy sector. Companies that already meet the CPCF criteria and can deliver integrated Locally Commissioned Services (LCS) alongside their existing contracts are particularly well-suited for this procurement. Given the service's specific requirements, such as interdependency between CPCF and LCS, only pharmacies holding CPCF contracts can effectively compete. Payment will be made based on local activity prices, providing a stable and predictable income stream for existing providers.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Contract Award has been made following direct award process B under the Provider Selection Regime.

This contract is awarded to an existing provider. Although we would not restrict the number of providers who deliver these LCS services provided they meet the contract and specification criteria, the primary reason that these services can only be delivered by this group of providers (pharmacy) is because they are required to hold a contract via the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) and deliver the LCS alongside these services; the LCS is designed to enhance the (CPCF) contract and not stand alone, therefore, interdependency between the two services is paramount. For this reason not every Pharmacy delivers every LCS.

The provider is paid on an activity basis based on local prices.

This is an existing service delivered by an existing provider. The contract will run from 01/04/2024 to 31/03/2025.
