Summary of the contracting process

NHS Devon ICB is initiating a procurement process for the provision of Routine Community Age-Related Hearing Loss Services, primarily targeting adult patients aged over 55 registered with a GP in Devon. The procurement is in the planning stage with an initial response required by 8th November 2024, and possible extension up to 12th November 2024. The services are to commence on 1st April 2025, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and locally responsive services. The delivery will encompass hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings (if clinically indicated), and follow-up and aftercare services. Complex audiology services and services for patients under 55 are excluded. NHS Devon ICB will not fund unauthorised service delivery locations and mandates adherence to NICE, BAA, BHSA guidelines, with contracts anticipated to run for three years with optional two-year extensions.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in ENT or audiology services, especially those with the capability to provide domiciliary care across Devon. Suitable candidates should have the necessary accreditations, professional indemnity arrangements, and experience measures in place. Providers can substantially grow their business by securing a position as an NHS provider, benefitting from payment on an activity basis, with patient referrals via GPs or self-referrals. The NHS Standard Contract will govern the service, and there is a flexibility for providers to express interest for delivering services across the county or specific localities, ensuring robust service coverage and quality reporting compliance. Interested parties are encouraged to request further details and complete an engagement questionnaire to inform the procurement approach.
